In order to design a 60,000-seater stadium to be built to host soccer’s 2019 Asian Cup, Dubai has launched a unique competition amongst prominent designers across the world.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has the remit from the government to build the mentioned soccer stadium.

In March 2015, rejecting a rival proposal from Iran, Asian Football Confederation (AFC) awarded hosting rights for the 24-nation tournament to the United Arab Emirates.

The matches will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and oasis town Al Ain. Sources say, each emirate will utilise two stadiums for the event as AFC regulations require the hosting country to employ at least six stadiums for the tournament.

A news agency has reported that some design bids have already been submitted to RTA and a mixture of engineers, architects and property consultants are submitting designs individually.

Reports say the stadium will be built around Dubai Sports City (DSC) and in proximity to the 25,000-capacity cricket stadium in DSC
